Position Summary

Lakeview is embarking on a new and broader initiative to connect with our community, which includes our immediate community, Lakeview, plus other communities in southwest Calgary.  This position is critical to our moving forward and growing, by assisting, mobilizing and empowering volunteers in this area.  It is anticipated that the position will change, both in hours and responsibilities, as Lakeview United Church grows.  Changes will be discussed with the incumbent and, in fact, the incumbent is likely to initiate the discussion.

Key Responsibilities*   

  • Plan vibrant programs for our children and youth
  • Recruit and work with volunteers to ensure appropriate training and delivery of programs to children and youth
  • Ensure Sunday morning multi-age programming
  • Evaluate and recommend curriculums for relevant age groups
  • Plan, facilitate and participate in four events each year that bring children, youth and families together with the larger congregation to build a sense of church community outside Sunday School
  • Foster relationship with families in the community
  • Work closely with Faith Formation and Christian Education Committee

Requirements*

  • Experience and knowledge in the areas of children and youth ministry
  • Demonstrated education and leadership skills
  • A lively faith, with values compatible to the congregation*
  • Creativity, flexibility and a sense of humour
  • Good organization, time management and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently within goals, program policy and direction
  • Respect for Duty of Care and confidentiality policies

Terms*                                

Remuneration, vacation, benefits and other terms and conditions of service consistent with the positions of the United Church of Canada and commensurate with the skills and experience of the individual.*   The church plans to provide allowances for equipment and resources for this work.

Sunday School & Youth Group

Children from age 3 to Grade 6 meet for Sunday School at 10:00 am.  We use The Whole People Of God Curriculum for age appropriate themes and activities, including stories, puzzles, songs, drama and crafts.  We have fun as we learn about God’s love!! 

The Youth Group for Grades 7 - 12 meet most Sundays at 10:00 and at some other scheduled times.

Current schedule for Youth Group

Jan. 22     Meet for discussion with Gwen in the youth room at 10 am.

Jan. 29     Meet for activities in the youth room at 10 am.

Feb. 5       Meet for discussion with Elizabeth in the youth room at 10 am.

Feb. 12     Meet for discussion with Gwen in the youth room at 10 am.

Feb. 19     Sunday School Children and Youth Group will join the congregation for worship in the sanctuary today.

Feb. 26     Meet for activities in the youth room at 10 am.
